Collaboration for Leadership in Learning Health System for Paediatric Leaders with University Gadjah Mada

Published on July 12, 2024

The Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne recently delivered a dynamic 2-day leadership course in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This course brought together emerging paediatric leaders across 21 departments in Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing to explore key topics such as leadership practices, emotional intelligence, team dynamics, conflict resolution, and using data for system improvements.

A highlight of the course was an insightful panel session hosted by Prof. Amy Gray, Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne, featuring Prof. Yodi Mahendradhata, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Adi Utarini, and Prof. Mei Neni.

Prof. Yodi, who self identifies as an "introvert or quiet leader," shared his unique approach to leadership: lead by listening, learn from failure. Get knocked out, get up and move on. Keep learning!

Participants were engaged and enthusiastic, sharing at the end of course that they now realised: "Everyone is a leader, including me."

We are delighted to hear "The balance between knowledge, group activities/discussion, and fun activities is great. Excellent workshop, inspiring and fun!" As per active learning pedagogy and adult learning principles - Learning should be fun, even for adults. šŸ˜‰

Matur nuwun (thank you) to our collaborators Dr Eggi, Dr Ida and Dr Andit.
