UniMelb: New honorary policy and concurrent honorary appointments
The University’s updated Honorary Appointments Policy is now in place, and the central Staff Hub honorary page has been refreshed as the single source of truth for the latest guidance and supporting materials. MDHS will transition remaining existing honorary appointees to the new policy over the coming months, with further communications to follow shortly with more detailed, step-by-step information. Deanery and local leadership will have a role in confirming and approving honorary appointments onto the new framework, and support will be available to assist teams through the process.
Where someone with an honorary appointment is also being offered employment, under the new Honorary Appointments Policy, holding an honorary appointment and employment at the same time isn’t permitted. Exceptions may be made in limited circumstances, under advice from the Employment Compliance Directorate (ECD) and with special permission from the relevant faculty's Deputy Dean (or equivalent). This is outlined in section 5.8, 5.9 and 6 in the Policy. For the required process and guidance, please refer to the KBA – Concurrent Honorary and Employment Arrangements
